I do content marketing.

Content, strategy, GTM, and SEO site optimization

(plus a bunch of other stuff I don’t have space for here — keep reading!)

About Me

I don’t want to bury the lede. So I’m going to start with the interesting part: What’s in it for you?

I do content, marketing strategy, and some design work. If you’re looking for a freelancer or fractional contributor to your team, I’m a very skilled, relatively affordable option who’s pretty easy to work with. I don’t drop the ball, and I don’t miss deadlines. I do talk about my dogs a lot. But that won’t get in the way of work. 💪

I’m a former journalist, a current digital marketer in higher education, and I have about 13 years of content, SEO, strategy, and “marketing generalist” experience. Marketers today are asked to do a lot, but this also means many of us have niche skill in a million different areas- and one of mine might be a fit for you. See below 👇

What I can and will do

I’ve found that most things are figure-out-able. And by that I mean - marketing is not rocket science, but it can be multi-faceted, stressful, annoying, or require some specific knowledge. I have a lot of that. Here are the areas in which I am most skilled.

Startup Strategy

  • Lean Startup Methodology: Employing a systematic approach to building and launching a new product or service by iteratively developing, measuring, and learning from customer feedback.

  • Customer Development: Conducting research and interviews to deeply understand your target market's needs, pain points, and desires.

Overall Marketing Strategy

  • Brand Positioning: Defining your brand's unique identity, values, and messaging to differentiate yourself from competitors.

  • Customer Value Proposition (CVP): Clearly articulating the benefits and unique selling points of your product or service to your target audience.

  • Marketing Mix: Effectively utilizing the 4 Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) to reach your target market and achieve your marketing objectives.

Go-To-Market Strategies

  • Market Penetration: Focusing on increasing sales of your existing products or services in your current market.

  • Market Development: Expanding your market reach by targeting new customer segments or geographic regions.

  • Product Development: Introducing new products or services to your existing market or developing improved versions of your current offerings.

  • Diversification: Entering new markets with new products or services to reduce risk and capitalize on growth opportunities.

  • SEO Optimization: Improving your search engine rankings to drive organic traffic through keyword research, on-page, and off-page SEO.

  • Content Marketing: Crafting engaging blog posts, web copy, and email campaigns tailored to your audience, focusing on conversion rate optimization (CRO).

  • Strategic Campaign Planning: Developing and executing strategies that align with your business goals and market demands.

  • Email Marketing: Designing and sending targeted email campaigns to engage with your audience and drive conversions.

  • Targeting: Identifying and reaching your target audience through various channels, such as social media, search engines, and email marketing.

    Execution and sales

  • Design: Creating visually appealing and user-friendly websites, landing pages, and marketing materials.

  • Technical Writing: Writing clear and concise technical documentation, such as user manuals, white papers, and software specifications.

  • Website Work: Developing, maintaining, and optimizing your website to ensure it is user-friendly, responsive, and search engine optimized.

  • Social Media: Managing your social media presence to build brand awareness, engage with your audience, and drive traffic to your website.

  • Video: Creating and editing engaging videos for use on your website, social media channels, and other platforms.

  • Script Work: Writing scripts for videos, podcasts, and other marketing materials.

  • Sales Enablement Material: Developing and creating sales materials, such as pitch decks, case studies, and white papers, to help your sales team close deals.

  • Customizing User Journeys and Experiences: Tailoring user interactions and experiences based on individual preferences, behaviors, and data to enhance engagement and conversions.

I’ll end the list here. You have things to do.

Why Work With Me?

You don’t have to. But I’d like it if you did.

I enjoy working with brands that I’m particularly interested in, companies with passion behind them, and in spaces where I’ve done a lot before - healthcare, technology, AI and ML, higher education, nonprofit, and DTC. I’ve also done some freelance and ghostwriting collaborations for travel blogs, beauty, wellness, lifestyle, general health, and the music industry.

You can message me to see if we’re a good fit.

FAQs

I have content on my site. Why isn’t it “working?”

Your current content might not be hitting the mark because it lacks a clear strategy, doesn't resonate with your audience, or isn’t optimized for SEO. It could be overly focused on your brand rather than addressing the needs and pain points of your customers. Many content strategies are just “writing stuff to write stuff,” and I am telling you right now, that will not do anything for you. If you want to gain readers/ attention from your ideal audience, then you need to make it all about them. What are they actually looking for? How can you show them you understand, and educate them about what to do?

If the content feels disconnected or fails to engage, it’s time for a refresh. “Content” is not just a bunch of blogs or one liners about your company. A real content strategy starts from the beginning - and creates a whole customer journey, organized by stages of awareness. It is strategic, and there’s a lot of psychology involved. If your content strategy isn’t working, is it really strategic?

What do you (Sophie) do differently?

I start by deeply understanding both your brand and its ideal audience. I craft content that speaks directly to your audience’s needs and desires while aligning with your brand’s goals. I blend creative storytelling with data-driven insights to ensure every piece of content is purposeful and impactful. My approach is holistic, ensuring content not only attracts attention but also drives engagement and conversions.

Why does it work?

My approach works because it’s personalized and strategic. By combining a thorough analysis of your audience with creative content strategies, I ensure that your content not only attracts attention but also drives engagement and conversions. My methods are rooted in understanding and empathy, building trust with your audience. I combine my skills in writing and strategy to deliver content that is both compelling and effective. But again, it’s not just about the writing - the strategy, user journey, and main underlying messages are equally important. This is what sets my strategies apart.

And, of course, I can write one-off content for you, if that’s what you’re seeking. But you’d probably benefit from a full content analysis and audit to understand what’s not working and why!

How do you measure success?

I measure success through a mix of analytics tools and direct feedback. Key performance indicators (KPIs) such as web traffic, engagement rates, and conversion rates are monitored to assess content performance. I also use qualitative feedback from surveys and customer interactions to refine and optimize strategies continuously.

What do you think about AI?

AI is a cool tool in digital marketing, offering efficiencies in data analysis and content creation. It helps me do what I do, but it can’t replace it. While AI can enhance strategy and execution, genuine connections with your audience are built through authentic, human-driven content. People can tell when something is written by AI, especially if it’s just regurgitated and copy-and-pasted from GPT. I use AI to help me research, understand, and distill information, but my final versions will NEVER sound AI-generated. High quality only.

As a proof point here, AI helped me develop this website but it didn’t write my final copy. Can you tell?
